Tickets, whilst free, must be booked in advance here.
This program is suitable for children aged 5-8 years.
Author Samantha Tidy will take participants through a significant moment in Australia’s history nearly 100 years ago, and discuss the historical and modern relevance of the Sydney Harbour Bridge to all Australians, and the challenges we overcame to build it at a difficult time. Referencing her picture book, The Day We Built the Bridge, this program will look at how bridges work, and the participants will explore the many (original) designs that could have taken the place of this national icon. They will also have a chance to design their own bridge, using materials provided.
Samantha Tidy is a writer of children’s, young adult and adult fiction. She has a Masters in Creative Writing and is the author of Cappuccino Diva, The Blue Polar Bear and The Flying Dream. Her most recent adult novel, The Happiness Jar, won the ACT Writing and Publishing Award for Fiction, among several other award nominations. Samantha’s picture book, The Day We Built the Bridge, was published by MidnightSun in February 2019 and Our Bush Capital, a children's book celebrating Canberra for kids, will be published in early 2020.
