I wrote Our Bush Capital, waaaay back in 2017, to help my pre-schooler /Kinder-aged children understand (and as a keepsake for when they were older), what a beautiful place Canberra has been for them to grow up in.

When it was published, January 2020, I remember we launched it at the National Capital Exhibition, watching Namadgi National Park burning in the background. A sense of foreboding was heavy in the air, and Minister Tara Cheyne launched it in a Love Belco T-Shirt. We had fancy biscuits!

6 weeks later, a virus arrived and their childhood dramatically changed.

Since then, the book took on a life of its own. People read it make them feel like things were normal. People read it to remember what they would go back to, when and if things turned normal. Some read it to connect with community. Some read it, because their house had burned down. I know, because so many people have written to me - THANK YOU.

All in, its been the most joyful ride of my life, bringing this book into the world. It’s been reprinted several times, due to popular demand, until I let it go quietly out of print a couple of years ago…

But the emails just keep coming…. can I PLEASE get a copy?!! When can I get a copy? But its for a newborn?! But its for a wedding present to someone in London! PLEEEEASEE reprint it!

So… 2025, it’s time to bring it back, albeit until this limited print run of books find their forever homes.

Now, my youngest is about to graduate primary school - maybe your little Canberrans are too?
