What is PERMACULTURE?

I am a lot of things - a writer, a teacher…. and a PERMACULTURALIST. This is a big word, and hard to pronounce, but think of it as a blend of two words PERMANENT and AGRICULTURE. Permaculture is a set of 3 ethics and12 principles to live by, and they don’t just apply to gardening.

Permaculture was created by two people - David Holmgren and Bill Mollison. The best thing about permaculture is you can apply these principles to more than just gardening. You can apply it to your business, your writing, your school, your shop, your house, your community hub… you get the idea! It is my belief that Permaculture has the ability to solve our world’s problems - from climate change to homelessness. When more people use these principles to solve the problems in their arena of influence, we see great things happen.

If you want to learn more about permaculture, I recommend doing a course with MILKWOOD. Nick and Kirsty are by far, the most knowledgeable team in the ever-growing permaculture community - but wherever you are, you will find people teaching about permaculture, which is all about sharing knowledge and care of people - this ticks off so many principles!
